The Wairaka Land Company (WLC) is a special purpose vehicle created by Unitec to masterplan and deliver Wairaka. WLC is led by an expert team with diverse backgrounds in property development, strategic planning, resource management, commercial transactions, and marketing.
The company was created in November 2015 to develop and implement a strategy to create a new urban community on the existing Mt. Albert campus where living, working and recreation co-exist in an educationally focused, sustainable form.
WLC led Unitec’s participation in the Auckland Unitary Plan process, requesting zoning changes and outlining a set of ideas for the long-term development of Wairaka. In August 2016, Auckland Council approved the Unitary Plan, including WLC’s proposals.
This year we begin delivering on $3 billion worth of development, the largest opportunity on the Auckland isthmus.
In 2014 we established a Community Liaison Group, which met regularly on various aspects of the Wairaka Precinct masterplan. The group was formed to ensure that future development incorporates significant community benefit in order to achieve the best outcomes for students, the community and greater-Auckland.
In 2015 our submission to the Auckland Council’s Unitary Plan Panel outlined a set of ideas on developing a vibrant community space with highly accessible public parks and recreation facilities, enhanced green spaces, improved access to Oakley Creek, and a network of walkways and cycle paths.
